Therapy in Toronto and online across Ontario

Psychotherapy in downtown Toronto

If you would rather sit in a room with someone than talk to a screen, my office is at 401 Bay Street, in the middle of downtown Toronto.

Where the office is

401 Bay St. Ste 1600, in the Financial District. It is a short walk from Union Station, King Station and Queen Station, and it sits within the PATH network, which matters in January and again in July.

It is a straightforward trip from most of the downtown core, including the Financial District, St. Lawrence, King West, the Entertainment District, Church and Wellesley, Corktown, the Distillery District, Harbourfront, Yonge and Dundas, and the University and Queen's Park area.

If you have accessibility requirements, ask me when you get in touch and I will tell you exactly what the building and the office are like rather than guessing.

Why some people choose in person

Online therapy is genuinely effective and it suits a lot of people. In-person work offers some things video does not, and it is worth knowing what they are before you choose.

  • The journey is part of it. The walk there is where you work out what you want to say, and the walk back is where it settles
  • A room that is not yours. Somewhere with no laundry, no housemates and no reminders of the week
  • Nothing to manage. No connection dropping, no wondering whether anyone can hear you through a wall
  • Being in the same room. For some people, particularly with grief or trauma-related work, presence matters in a way that is hard to put into words
  • A boundary around the hour. Leaving one building and entering another marks the time off in a way that closing a laptop does not

What to expect the first time

We will have spoken already on a free 15-minute consultation, so you will not be walking in cold. Sessions are 50 minutes and cost $170. Arriving a few minutes early is helpful but not essential, and you do not need to prepare anything or bring anything.

You are not expected to arrive with a tidy explanation of why you are there. Most people do not have one.

Mixing in person and online

Plenty of clients do both. In person on the weeks it works, and online when you are working from home, travelling, unwell, or when getting downtown is simply too much that week. You do not have to choose once and stick with it.

Common questions

Is there parking nearby?

There is parking in the area, though downtown rates being what they are, transit is usually the easier option. Union, King and Queen stations are all a short walk away.

What are your hours?

Availability changes from term to term, so rather than publishing hours I cannot always honour, please ask when you get in touch and I will tell you what is genuinely open.

Can I switch to online later?

Yes, at any point, and back again. Many people move between the two depending on what is happening that month.

If you work nearby, there is more on the Financial District page. For sessions from anywhere in the province, see online therapy in Ontario.

You do not have to go through this alone.

Send a short message and I will get back to you personally to arrange a free 15-minute consultation. In person in downtown Toronto, or online anywhere in Ontario.
