FAQ

Questions people often hesitate to ask.

If yours is not here, please just ask. There is no such thing as a silly question about therapy.

Before you start

Is my problem serious enough for therapy?

Almost everyone asks this, and the answer is yes. You do not need to be in crisis to deserve support. Therapy is as useful for "something feels off and I would like to understand it" as it is for a diagnosable condition. If it matters to you, it is worth an hour.

What am I supposed to talk about?

Whatever is on your mind, including the fact that you do not know what to talk about. That is a genuinely useful place to start, and part of my role is helping you find the words. You will not be left sitting in silence.

Who do you work with?

I work with individuals. Much of my practice is with young adults, roughly between 17 and 35, and I welcome adults at any stage of life. No two people arrive with the same history or the same goals, so the work is shaped around you rather than fitted to a template.

What if you judge me?

You will not be judged here. Whatever you bring is yours, and my job is to understand it alongside you rather than measure you against anything. Building a space where you feel safe enough to be honest is the first thing I work on, and it matters more to me than anything else we do.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brought you here, some background, and what you would like to be different. I will explain confidentiality and answer any questions. You set the pace, and there is no obligation to tell me your whole life story in fifty minutes.

Fees and logistics

How much does it cost?

$170 per 50-minute session. A limited number of reduced-fee spaces are available, and you are welcome to ask about one.

Is it covered by insurance?

Some extended health plans cover services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), but coverage varies between insurers and not every plan includes Qualifying members. Please confirm directly with your provider before your first session, asking specifically about coverage for a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and how many sessions per year you have. I provide a receipt for each session to submit.

How often would I come?

Most people start weekly, which helps build momentum, and move to every other week as things settle. There is no minimum commitment and no package to purchase.

How long will I be in therapy?

It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a focused stretch of eight to twelve sessions with a specific goal, others stay longer and go deeper. We will review it together regularly, and you can stop whenever you choose.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. Secure, confidential video for anyone located in Ontario, and in person at the office in Toronto. Many people mix the two depending on their week.

What is your cancellation policy?

24 hours' notice, so the time can be offered to someone else. Life genuinely happens, so if something comes up please get in touch rather than simply not attending.

How do I get in touch?

By email, at victoria@lifecyclecounselling.com, or through the form on the contact page. Email is the best way to reach me, and I reply to every enquiry personally, usually within two business days.

Privacy and how I work

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, with a small number of legal and ethical exceptions that I will explain clearly before we begin: if there is a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, if there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, or if records are ordered by a court. None of this will come as a surprise to you.

What does "Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)" mean?

It means I am a registered member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) who is completing the final supervised clinical hours and examination requirements for full registration. I practise under regular clinical supervision and am bound by the same professional, ethical and confidentiality standards as any CRPO member.

What kind of therapy do you practise?

Integrative, meaning I draw on CBT, ACT, DBT-informed skills, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness and psychodynamic approaches depending on what fits you. In practice it feels like a real conversation with structure and tools behind it.

Can you diagnose me or prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medication. That is the role of your physician or a psychiatrist. I can help you understand what you are experiencing, support you in conversations with prescribers, and work alongside your medical team where that is useful.

What if I do not like you?

Please tell me. Fit matters far more than politeness, and research consistently shows the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of whether therapy helps. I would much rather adjust how we work, or help you find someone better suited, than have you sit through sessions you are dreading.

What if I am in crisis?

This practice is not an emergency service, and I am not available between sessions for urgent support. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number, go to your nearest emergency department, or contact 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline (call or text 988). Please do not wait for an appointment.
